I first wrote this book in 2004. This is a revised version. The main reason for revising the book was to enable it to be presented as an E-Book and also because the World as I see it is in a perpetual state of change. We have had a change of Prime Minister, Stop and Search is back on the Agenda and many more young black lives have been lost since I first put pen to paper. I hope you will enjoy reading this book, subject matter aside, and learn from it as I undoubtedly have.
My parents arrived in the United Kingdom in 1954, some 9 years after the cessation of the Second World War. The only assets they had were youth, integrity and an honest belief in the virtues of hard work.
I was educated at in an inner-London comprehensive school, which I left with only a few poorly graded CSEs. In brief, I have been through the complete United Kingdom education system and come out the other end with a story to tell that may assist others. I bring a level of subjectivity to issues that can only really be acquired by someone who has been through the system and, in doing so, gained first hand experience. Clearly where I have touched upon the crucial subject of chattel slavery I have no first hand knowledge. Notwithstanding this, I do have understanding, passion and an honest belief in what I am trying to do. Using research techniques and interviews I have managed to formulate my view and understanding of slavery, which I am conveying to you in this book. I am not saying this is a comprehensive historical look at our past, because it is clearly not, rather it is a snap shot of our largely unwritten history.
